Biosketch

Dr. Marianne van der Steen is Professor of Entrepreneurship in Healthcare of the Regenerative Medicine Institute and the Cardiovascular Institute of Maastricht University and Chief Business Officer of Coagulation Profile BV. Marianne is the co-founder and CEO of ReGEN Biomedical BV (2021), developing manufacturing equipment for automated production of tissue-engineered products (EUR 20 million start-up investment). She is the founder CEO of Hummingbird Biomedical BV (2024). Marianne has established the Hummingbird Biomedical Lab at Mayo Clinic in Arizona and is part-time visiting professor at ASU and UCI.

 

She is co-founder and start-up director of the European translational regenerative medicine institute REGMED XB (2016-2023), focused on organ regeneration. Marianne has raised EUR 250 million to start and scale REGMED XB. She has been responsible for the design and leadership of a unique commercialization model translating ground- breaking regenerative medicine and cardiovascular technologies into commercial products and companies. The institute has been since its start, globally connected to HSCI- Harvard University and Landmark BIO (Boston) and California Institute of Regenerative Medicine CIRM of University of California Irvine.

 

Marianne has raised -and together with Biogeneration Ventures (BGV) established- a pre-seed fund FIRST of EUR 10 million (2020) She has been granted prestigious National Growth Fund of EUR 56 million (2021).  Marianne’s unique strength is that she has been acting at the interface of research, life sciences ventures, industry, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) at hospitals and VCs in Europe, the United States and Middle East. She is a board member of several (pre) seed funds and a venture partner of AI Capital. She is part of the core-team of Mayo Clinic Medtech Accelerator (2022).

Since 2006, she has been a life sciences entrepreneur and over the years served many (non-) executives’ roles; she is a venture founder and has been involved as a non-executive board member, early-stage investor, supervisory board member, consultant, business developer and mentor in European and US life sciences start-ups. 

​

Marianne is member of the Life Sciences and Health Advisory Board of the Netherlands, serving the Dutch government.
